International symposiums in Guwahati (Assam)

Consul General of the Russian Federation in Kolkata Mr Alexey Idamkin took part in the International Seminar “Negotiating Culture: New Frontiers in Translation and Language Learning” and the International Symposium “Open Pages in South Asian Studies” held on 22-23 January, 2019 in Guwahati, the capital of Assam. The Gauhati University (GU) in collaboration with the Russian State University organized the event for Humanities (RSUH).

Prof. Alexander Stolyarov, Ms Indira Gazieva and Ms Liudmila Pachischeva represented the delegation of Russian scholars from RSUH and Prof. Liudmila Khokhova from the Institute of Asia and Africa Studies of the Moscow State University. Indian participants included Vice-Chancellor of GU Mridul Hazarika, Calcutta University Professor Samir Kr. Das, Director of the Center of South-East Asian Studies of GU Nani Gopal Mahanta, Professor of the English and Foreign Languages University of Hyderabad J.P.Dimri and others. Representatives of Kyrgyz National University named after J.Balasagyn also took part in the symposiums.

The participants discussed a wide range of humanitarian issues from etymology of ancient languages to current international relations.

In his address the Consul General narrated about the main aspects of Russian-Indian humanitarian relations and emphasized the importance of strengthening academic ties between the two countries.
