Meetings with Russian authors in Kolkata

On the 2nd and 3rd of February, 2018 meetings with Russian writers Ms Marina Moskvina, Mr Lev Danilkin and Mr Petr Voltsit were held at the Russian Center of Science and Culture (RCSC) and at the 42th International Kolkata Book Fair (IKBF). The organizational support was rendered by the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Kolkata and the RCSC.

Consul General of Russia in Kolkata Mr Alexey Idamkin, Representative of the JSC “General Directorate of International Book Exhibitions and Fairs” Ms Alyona Novokshonova, Representative of the Russian Publishing House «AST» Ms Anna Plotnikova, General Secretary of the Publishers and Booksellers Guild Mr Tridib Chatterjee, Director of “Sarat Book House Pvt. Ltd.” Mr Milinda De, Assistant Editor of Sahitya Akademi Mr Gautam Paul, as well as local intellectuals, media, and Russian compatriots took part in the events.

In his speech the Consul General noted that Russia - India interaction in the cultural area is a model of equitable mutually enriching cooperation, which deepens understanding between two friendly nations and contributes to preservation and revitalization of vibrant cultural heritage of both countries. It is especially noticeable in Kolkata which historically has seen great interest in Russian literature.

At a meeting titled «An Interface: Russia and Bengal», which was held within the framework of the IKBF and with participation of Sahitya Akademi, the Russian writers discussed ways of encouraging and bolstering creative activity in modern Russian and Bengali societies.
