Press conference on the eve of the opening of the International Theatre Festival in Kolkata

A press conference on the opening of the 7th International Theatre Festival was held on May 28, 2018 at the oldest bookshop in Kolkata – "Oxford Bookstore". The event was arranged by the theatre group “Kalindi Bratyajon” and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). The festival will be held at the Academy of Fine Arts fr om May 29 to June 3, 2018.

Consul General of the Russian Federation in Kolkata Alexey Idamkin, Deputy Consul General of Italy Vincenza Bufalo, Minister of Information, Technology and Electronics, Government of West Bengal, Bratya Basu and the representatives of the theatre troupes from India took part in the press conference.

The 14-strong Russian company will participate in the International Theater Festival for the third time and on May 30, 2018 will present a play called “Freud”, which is a joint project of Moscow theatre “School of Modern Drama” and the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS). The organizational support is rendered by the Consulate General of Russia in Kolkata.

Alexey Idamkin highlighted the upcoming performance, which premiered in Moscow on January 10, 2018. He emphasized that Kolkata is the first foreign city wh ere the “Freud” will be shown. The Consul General underlined the significant role of cultural ties between Russia and India with a focus on joint projects in the sphere of arts. He wished success to the Russian and other theatre companies.
