Visit of Ambassador of Russia to India Mr. Nikolay R. Kudashev to West Bengal

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of India Mr. Nikolay R.Kudashev paid an official visit to West Bengal on December 25-28, 2017. The Ambassador called on Mr. Keshari Nath Tripathi, Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, and Dr. Amit Mitra, Hon’ble Minister for Finance & Excise, Commerce & Industries, Government of West Bengal. He also took part in a reception on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and India, which was organized by the Consulate General of Russia in Kolkata.

During the talks the Ambassador reaffirmed the commitment to further strengthening the special and privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India. The sides noted the importance of regular meetings between the leaders of both countries to take stock of bilateral cooperation and make plans for the future. It was also stressed that by today an extensive legal framework has been formed and institutional mechanisms for cooperation have been developed at the intergovernmental level and within business communities.

Mr. Nikolay R.Kudashev highlighted the proximity and concurrence of approaches of Russia and India to key international issues, successful cooperation in the UN, within the formats of BRICS, SCO, EAS and other regional bodies and structures, common understanding of the need to build a new open, non-confrontational, inclusive regional security architecture in the Asia-Pacific.

In the course the meetings with the leadership of West Bengal the Ambassador emphasized the need for interregional cooperation in order to enhance trade and economic ties. The Indian side expressed interest in establishing direct business contacts between West Bengal and Russian regions in such areas as petrochemicals, coal industry, construction, metallurgy, engineering, urban management, information technology, etc. The Business Council for Cooperation with India under the aegis of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation is ought to play a significant role in such cooperation.
